Quilting Idea’s For You To Try

Try Quilting as a new hobby

Try Quilting as a new hobby

Whether you are a beginning quilter, or an advanced practitioner of the craft, you will find many books on quilting that will help advance your knowledge.  Quilting books fall roughly into several categories, and numerous titles abound in each.  The categories of books are how-to, pattern encyclopedias, historical, books about the joy of quilting, and art books.

How-to books are probably the most popular, and the first stop for the beginning quilter.    An e-book called “Quilting Made Simple” claims it will have you making your first quilt in 30 days!   You could unlock the secrets of making a treasured modern quilting blocks family heirloom from this e-book too, which would be a fantastic gift to give a family member.   How about that for your first quilt?

They range from books which discuss the overall craft of quilting and give step-by-step instructions, to books which will take one aspect of quilting and explain how to do it.  The instructional books start with such basics as fabric selection and which tools you’ll need and proceed through instructions for assembling the blocks of the quilt top and the quilt itself, down to explanations of quilting, both hand and machine.  Every quilter needs at least one of these books in her library, and usually will manage to collect a number of them.  It’s amazing how many times you need a ready reference when you are in the middle of a quilting project.

Another type of book that every quilter will want to have on hand is an encyclopedia of patterns.  These books collect many different quilt block patterns and show the basics of their assemblies.  Because their aim is to cover a lot of ground, these books are valuable starting points but won’t go into intimate detail.  For that you need to turn to books which feature instruction on a specific pattern.  With the wide variety of quilting block patterns and techniques, you can imagine that this category of quilting books is quite extensive and stocked with titles.  Books in this category may devote an entire volume to explaining the nuances of, for instance, the Log Cabin pattern.

Because quilting has its roots in American history, quilts and the craft of quilting have been studied extensively, and many historical quilting books exist.  One in particular I came across is 206 Patchwork Quilt Patterns.   If you are looking for vintage patterns this e-book has several designs.   Looking at these books and seeing what our ancestors did with a fraction of the materials and supplies available today can be a great source of inspiration to modern quilters.  Along the same lines are books which discuss the pleasures to be derived from quilting, both in its social form (such as quilting bees) or as a solitary pursuit.  Finally, there is a whole segment of quilters who have advanced the craft into art.  These quilters regularly show their work in galleries and museums, and publish books not only about their quilts, but the thoughts and processes that went into making them.  Sometimes collectors of quilts will publish books, too.  These art quilt books are as inspiring in their way as the historical quilting books.

A good way to choose quilting books that will become a permanent part of your library is to choose a time when you’ll have a couple hours of uninterrupted time.  Go to the library, or your local bookstore, or fire up your computer and look at books on the internet.  Take your time, browse, and get a feel for the vast number of titles out there.  You’ll no doubt end up with a much longer list than you have time or money for at the moment, but you can purchase or check out a few titles and start a wish list for more.

Part of the joy of quilting is finding books on the topic, and luckily for modern quilters, there is a huge array of titles to choose from.  Maybe you will start to see the business side of quilting and start your own business.   There are many e-books that are set up to show you exactly how to start, run and market a successful machine quilting business that will allow you to earn a healthy part time or full time income.  Really the world is your oyster.  This can be a very lucrative business or just a fantastic hobby.  Whatever you choose, give quilting a go.  Get your project head on and start a something to brighten a new family member’s bed/cot, or brighten your home with your own design of cushion covers.  Do small projects until you feel more comfortable with the techniques, but start with something.  Quilting is lots of fun and very enthralling, along with extremely satisfying once you see the end result.  Enjoy you new craft and amaze your friends and family with your quilting prowess!

Squeeze Ninja Review!!

Squeeze Ninja

Squeeze Ninja

Squeeze Ninja

The New Squeeze Ninja Creation Software Provided by MemberSpeed. Okay first off, I want to get something off my chest before you continue reading… I really hate reviewing squeeze page (or any page) creation software for that matter. Like you, I consider my time valuable, so learning a new software application that I will probably never use, just gets me in a pissed off mood. Most of them don’t do half of what promotional material promises, but I will still need to spend hours of my precious life to find that out, so I can review them. I wouldn’t have even tested this software out, if it had not been for the recommendation of an online marketing comrade, whom I respect more for his judgment in products than my own judgment, in personal matters. Therefore, if you consider my attitude at the start, you’ll understand why I was ready with my stop-watch to document the entire process so I could write my scathing review post and get back to doing something more enjoyable like getting a root canal. So, after lunch at exactly 1:05 in the afternoon, I entered my PayPal information, checked my email, and logged into the Squeeze Ninja site, per the instructions.

The Squeeze Ninja sign up process was replete with corny Ninja jokes, which had me chuckling despite my aforementioned attitude but for all their attempts to distract me, I kept my timer going, if nothing but for journalistic integrity. Surely the next part, would be excruciatingly long, confusing, and probably both. Instead, I was greeted with an introduction video and a link to download the software. While I began to download the software to my PC, I started the introduction video, which only lasted 8 minutes and ten seconds, the moderator was clear and concise, and he explained step-by-step how to upload the files I had received to my own server using Filezilla. He also explained how to get the open source .ftp upload software if you didn’t already have it. Because I already had a copy of Filezilla on my laptop, I was able to turn around and have the Squeeze Ninja files uploaded to my website in time to follow along with his software registration and customization instructions, which completed this introduction video.

I suppose I could have dragged out the process by stopping my timer deleting my copy of Filezilla and following his instructions but I was in a hurry to get to the part where I could show you how the software didn’t work as described. All totaled then for those of you keeping track by quarter after one I had my copy of Squeeze Ninja online, registered and “conceivably” ready to go. Ahead of me still were three more videos but as I clicked on them and followed the step-by-step instructions including the times I paused them to catch up, I was able to create a my first squeeze page in less than forty five minutes.
SQUEEZE NINJA is ready!!!

At 1:58 I was testing my first squeeze page …by entering one of my garbage email addresses, had received confirmation to the new list, and was downloading my thank-you gift. All totaled, it took me less than one hour to build the first working squeeze page! It worked, I was dumb founded! My first Squeeze Page!
The last squeeze page I had made took me over six hours to create, meaning even with this being the first time ever using Squeeze Ninja, I still was able to shave off five hours from my previous record! This software might possibly change my mind about page creation software forever! But my test was not complete; the sales page said I should be able to complete a squeeze page in less than three minutes so knowing how it worked, I set about putting it to the test.
So I set my timer back to zero and clicked the “Create New Site” button and shouted GO! (Despite the fact, I was alone in my office and no one could hear me.) This time, I was held up at my autoresponders website creating a new list, which took me a few minutes because I couldn’t remember my login. This may or may not be fair to include in my official time. However, I have no way of separating it accurately from the final results.
That said I concluded my second squeeze page using Squeeze Ninja in a respectable 10 minutes and twenty-two seconds! Having created twice as many squeeze pages in one day than I had ever accomplished before, I declared my test of Squeeze Ninja an overwhelming success! I’m spending the remainder of the day writing this blog post and then it’s off to celebrate getting more work done today than I ever thought possible. Doing loads more squeeze pages. All thanks to Squeeze Ninja

Let’s Start This Again

Welcome to my blog. For some people who have been here before, you’ll find nothing remaining of what was here, mainly because the content was over a year old and probably out of date. I will be posting my blogs again in due course once I’ve got up to speed with the internet as I’ve had a year off.
The main theme for my content will still be on marketing and working from home as I try to find reputable places to promote your sites. I’ll also try and give honest opinions on how I’ve found the sites I personally use, by telling you if I’ve had success myself or whether the sites have been too much hard work to warrant the time spending on them in order to get your own product/business off the ground.
Working on the internet is not for the faint hearted. There is a lot of hard work and dedication needed for what you are doing, and keeping records of what you do is a must. I have a pen and paper beside my computer to write down what I’ve done, where I’ve posted, what I’ve seen and notes about places I want to go back too. Never underestimate the old fashioned techniques of note book and pen. You won’t be sorry, especially if your computer has a bad day.
So please come back and take a look at my blog site from time to time, as you will find some interesting content and hopefully, my time spent checking sites, may point you in the right direction towards your success.
Thank you for your time reading this and I wish you all the best in your quest for success on line
