If you are new to online marketing, here are five essentials you need to know so you can maximize what you earn as an Affiliate.

1. For those serious about building an online business and who want to market a number of programs, product, services or opportunities, you will want to start with a home base for your activities. The best way to do this is by booking your own domain name. This will cost you as little as $10 a year and establishes a permanent, reputable home for your business. If you are doing affiliate marketing on the side from your full time occupation (like so many do), it will also help your activities separate. You see, most websites that offer advertising require you to sign up for Membership account, and that means multiple user name and passwords at what could eventually be dozens and dozens of sites. So I recommend, a Password Manager program called Roboform. As your online business grows and you start to lose your sanity keeping track of all your user names and passwords you will come to realize the incredible organization value of a program like Roboform. It will make your logins or form filling, much faster and that means less time trying to recall or find passwords and more time for doing what makes you money – promotion.

3. If you are new to online marketing you need to understand that it is not enough to promote. You need a reliable method for tracking your ad results. In other words, if you post an ad, you want to know how many clicks you got on your ad. If you don’t know what kind of hit rate you are getting you have no idea of the effectiveness of your ad, or the advertising source. These programs that allow you to do this are called Ad Tracker Software or Ad Analysis software. Most are free or very low cost. You can get started with a free Webmaster Tools account from Google. Some of the companies you advertise with may also offer you an ad tracking tool within their member area

4. I talk to many new online marketers, and they will tell me they have some amazing product that will sell itself it is so good. This is absolute nonsense. ALL products, no matter how good they are, need to be promoted to sell. If you want to make online sales you need to promote constantly. Understand that PROMOTION is what drives sales – it is so important that 80 – 90% of your time in building your online business should be devoted to promotion. I don’t mean surfing, researching, or face booking and tweeting with your friends. I mean time spent actually posting ads online at classified ad sites, forums, blogs, safelists, traffic exchanges, pay per click, joint ventures, ad swaps, and email marketing. If you want to make money online as an affiliate marketer know that constant, consistent promotion is critical. Some see this as a very boring part of being an online marketer, get over it, promotion is what you have to do to earn money.

5. Don’t do this alone. Affiliate marketing can be very frustrating if you don’t know what you are doing and not seeing any results for your efforts. If you are determined to make money online, then invest in yourself, take a course, download eBooks, participate in a webinar, find a coach, training program or otherwise so you can learn the best methods. America’s newest national monument debuts, dedicated to The Reverend DoctorMartin Luther King, Jr. What we must never forget about the man and his resounding message.

Author’s program note. Only one song would do for this of all articles, the iconic anthem of the American Civil Rights Movement (1955-1968), “We Shall Overcome.”

It was not so much a song as a declaration of purpose and profound resolve, one that did not merely state and celebrate the destination… but constituted a collective pledge, renewed with each singing, that adherents were united in mind, body and purpose; for they would need all that, and more, as they moved towards the inspiring goal of equality, where people who were divided by tradition, at last forged unity from divisiveness.

“We Shall Overcome” is a protest song. The lyrics are derived from the refrain of a gospel song by Charles Albert Tindley. It was first published in 1947 in the People’s Song Bulletin, a publication of People’s Songs, an organization of which Pete Seeger was the director. The song became associated with the Civil Rights Movement from 1959, when Guy Carawan launched it as the most famous, motivating, and ultimately elegiac song of the movement; their soaring battle hymn. It was what the oppressed people, their adherents and their resolute opponents heard when fire hoses were turned on them, dogs ordered to snarl and bite, and truncheons beat down upon the pilgrims sore beset.

There were many heroes in those days, but not yet a Hero who would rise above the others and become the very heartbeat of the movement, its public face and voice to the world.

That man had not yet emerged, but his first important moment was about to take place… in Birmingham, Alabama, where from a prison cell he was about to instruct his followers, his opponents, and a world oppressed by a panoply of civil rights abuses in what a man who believes in justice must do.

Consider this man now, on the threshold of history. He is mortal, frail, fragile, with profound doubts, hesitations and an acute consciousness of his inadequacies. He, like so many Heroes hoped that he would not have to be what he was in process of becoming; he hoped others would shoulder a substantial part of the burden. But History is infallible. It saw, as the individual did not, that this man could rise above his own demons and limitations… to become what the movement must have to succeed: a moral compass, a higher purpose, a complete humanity, and the ability to be beaten down, bitten, spat on, bruised, and beaten again — and yet love his tormenters, direct the anger of his people towards benign purpose, and always get up… showing that violence, any violence, could not stop him… and so would not stop the movement either. This was sublime! This was what the man was on this planet to do… though he did not entirely know this yet.

And so in April, 1963 he went to the most bigoted city in America, likely the most segregated, the least hospitable to its black inhabitants, the city that taught the nation how to insult, condescend, intimidate, and, all too often, to kill people of color for being born and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was the capital of every finely turned, exquisite form of segregation and haters of every kind looked first to Birmingham as the citadel of their embittered beliefs, the fortress for immemorial hate that every black citizen knew only too well.

And so Martin Luther King, Jr. went to Birmingham as he went to so many fateful destinations… because it was necessary, because it was the right thing to do, because the people needed succor and relief and he had that to give and to spare.

The Birmingham event was a planned non-violent protest conducted by the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights and King’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference against racial segregation by Birmingham’s city government and downtown retailers. He was among the first arrested… the first taken harshly, insistently to his “suite” in Birmingham City Jail. It had to be a shock, jolting, demeaning, insulting, humiliating for this man who so loved life and life’s pleasures, more accustomed to the Word of God than the execrations of man.

But he had something to say, something which he had clearly thought about for some time, because he wrote without hesitation its profound message of import to all the world and its downtrodden.

King responds to eight white Alabama clergyman who opposed his visit to Birmingham.

On April 12, 1963 eight local clergymen offered Dr. King the benefit of their erudition and desire to defuse the anxious situation and rescue the imperiled status quo. These leaders of the church did what so many such have done over the ages. Bereft of courage, with cloudy vision, and a desire to safeguard their own positions and pulpits, they wrote Dr. King to leave… to let things take their course… to stop the violence and be patient… it would be, they were quite clear, so much better so. They didn’t have to say it would be better for them…

Dr. King was bruised in body and spirit as he arrived at the city jail. He must have wondered how he came there and whether against so much hatred he could achieve his goal. He must have wondered, too, at how many people already relied upon him… and of the terrible sacrifices he might ask them to make, even unto death itself. At such a time, a man, any man, might so wonder and reflect.

But then he read the sentiments of these local clergymen about his mission to Birmingham, criticizing it as “unwise and untimely”. He read these words, and he knew at once what he must do… and so the words of high portent and unmistakable conviction came swiftly.

He started his response in the way any disagreeing minister might have addressed a colleague, professionally, directly, pointedly. But this was not destined to be such a letter between Christian clergy of differing views. He had a higher purpose, and it was soon apparent. He meant to remind (if they knew), to teach (if they didn’t) his fellow clerics a fundamental precept of their ministries. He aimed to show them, once, for all, clearly, that justice was their business, the very heart of their business and he meant his message to be stern, unequivocal, a bell summoning all to recognition of their profound duties.

First he reminded these clergymen of the South, with their regional blindness, that the issue was not Southern, but American — “Anyone who lives in the United States can never be considered an outsider anywhere within its bounds”. In short, what was happening in Birmingham and what made the demonstration necessary was not merely a Birmingham problem or a Southern problem… it was an American problem (not to mention by quick extension a universal problem of long suffering humanity.)

And so he built his case for action now point by irrefutable point, making the considered advice of the local clergy seem like what it was, a self-serving argument keeping the blacks in their place, patient in the face of intimidation, outrage, and a white wrath ready to explode into legally sanctioned outrages against black citizens at any time.

Thus did King find the voice of moral certainty, the voice which freed so many and which resulted in time in the sacrifice of his very life, taken by those who came to know him as the dreaded prophet of black deliverance, and so necessary to destroy.

“Injustice,” he trumpeted, “anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” The haters, the entrenched segregationists, the racial purists, the purveyors of inequitable laws and legal terrorism and abuse, for all that they wrote volumes in support of their unsustainable opinions never uttered a phrase so powerful as this… a phrase that showed just where right and a better future lay. He signed his soon-to-be-world- famous “Letter from Birmingham City Jail”, “Yours for the cause of Peace and Brotherhood” and had it smuggled out in a toothpaste tube to avoid the jail’s guards.

Now this man has morphed into mythology with a grandiose civic temple for his observances. The architect Chinese artist Lei Yixin has been criticized for his work. No matter. Any architect’s work and vision would have found censure in the eyes of the jealous others who were not selected. But the truth is, this monument will soon be amongst the most popular, for all that the great monuments to Jefferson, Lincoln, and Franklin D. Roosevelt are near at hand.

“Now,” borrowing Edward Stanton’s words on Lincoln, King “belongs to the ages.” Here his greatest challenge will be in so inspiring those who follow in his footsteps, that his timeless message remains timely and is not forgotten by all those so beholden to the man who is now enshrined amidst among the worthies of the Great Republic his life’s work so enhanced.

A citizen writes the Inaugural Address he wants President Barack Obama to deliver January 21, 2013. What would you like this crucial speech to say?

Author’s program note. Everything, absolutely everything, pertaining to a presidential inauguration is not only of immediate, obsessive interest but constitutes, we know, History… moreover History in which we can and must participate, mull, comment upon, scrutinize, analyze, and, it’s our right, even excoriate, denounce and ridicule without fear of retribution. And so we watch as it all unfolds for you, for me, for each of us…

What the President did while he waited to take his place in the bullet-proof limousine… what the First Lady wore and whose fashion career she made thereby… how the Vice President, the person always just a heart beat away, looked as he took the 1884 oath to uphold the Constitution that kept him next to the most important person in the world but powerless and obscure for another four years. We cannot get enough, no detail too small.

And so we watch, mesmerized, by the most ordinary activities… we learn the President has a new coat and a new reason for his radiant smile… we watch as he walks briskly to the dais where the World, every friend and foe, is waiting impatiently for him… we note the dignitaries… each one a power in our fragmented, federal nation, forged by revolution.

Who is here today… where do they sit and why… who is absent? It is all grist for our mill. The Great Republic does not have the brilliant pageantry of a monarchy nor would it be appropriate, for the precise traditions of our nation are simple and unadorned. Yet there is not a freedom-loving person on Earth who does not find the matter at hand moving, grand, capable of putting a lump in your throat at any moment.

America stands before the world today, proud, reverent, hopeful, riven with problems of every kind, glad to have the opportunity to solve them. At this moment the sharp notes of “Hail to the Chief”, written in 1812 for just one person and this moment, rain upon us all. It is our President and whatever our party affiliation and opinion we wish him Godspeed… for he is our pilot now.

“My fellow citizens:

Forty-five times before, most recently by me at this place four years go, each President has taken the short oath that transforms him from citizen to your servant. It is a moment of awe, humility, and for celebration of the endless possibilities which constitute our Great Republic, and for the vision and genius of our people who, day by day, make these endless possibilities constantly improved realities. God bless America!

Let me share my vision of this place with you, this land of purple mountain’s majesty, from sea to shining sea.

My America is a place of tolerance and unstinting welcome; not merely a great nation, however significant, but bigger than this place, a concept. That here we have as our rooted objective not merely talking about pluralism but fostering it so that we create a nation whose strength is based on, drawn from every diverse strand. As such I shall urge the Congress to give first and prominent attention to creating a workable immigration policy that is at once fair, inclusive, and flexible. Franklin D. Roosevelt once reminded us that we are all immigrants. We must work together so that these immigrants become the best possible Americans, the pride of the Great Republic.

Americans need work and must find their way to success amidst the vicissitudes of the ever changing global economy. This means constant, sustained, never-ending focus on jobs for Americans. Thus, as Commander-in-Chief I hereby declare war on unemployment, war on underemployment, war on dead-end jobs, jobs without future, for America must shape the future in which she’ll abide… creating the jobs that future will demand.

Thus, today, a day of national renewal, I will commence a new, focused attack on the many destructive, pernicious, debilitating aspects of unemployment. Our headquarters will be what in World War II was called the “situation room.” It is now named after Franklin Roosevelt and here I shall work with America to the very moment when every American who wants a job has a job, for my vision of America is an employed America.

It is also a nation where children are safe and not murdered, where the smiles and joys of youth are fostered, valued, treasured… because their smiles and trusting natures brighten the lives of so many, including my own. Just a few weeks ago, I went to Connecticut, to Newtown, and what I experienced there changed my attitude and my life. And so I say this to you, my fellow citizens, “Remember Newtown” and work with me to make sure the sweet laugher of our youngest is not lost forever, their innocent blood dappling the snows of New England, or anywhere else.

Thus I have today instructed Vice President Biden, one of the finest public officials it has been my privilege to know and to call upon for the benefit of America, to take the chair of a national commission on this important matter. I have advised him to invite good people of different viewpoints to participate. The issue is multi-faceted, complicated, thorny and difficult. But the good people of America will solve this matter and stop its terrible manifestations. Because that’s what America does… and what we owe those poor dead children, the children we failed… and must never fail again.

Now I wish to speak to you about health, because life without health is a cruel hoax. We have, I am proud to say, made many advancements towards total national fitness. It is my pride that some of the most important of these were made on my watch. This is good, but America, citadel of the healing arts, can do better, must do better. Thus, I have called upon Bill Gates, a man of vision, kindness, and determination to head a multi-national commission on the eradication of disease, one disease at a time. Such an effort must link government resources and those of generous private donors, individual and corporate. America is admirably suited to lead this initiative… and to lead it now. Since we are able, so must we do.

Similarly, it is time to erase the pirates, marauders and e-highwaymen, the people who have turned one of history’s greatest devices, the Internet, into a mine field where the legitimate and necessary interests of individuals, businesses and government are attacked and destroyed by a handful of criminals and malcontents. This scourge must be stopped and stopped at once. Officials from my administration have been instructed at once to eradicate cyber-crime and free the world from the depredations of the destructive few and so advance universal amity and communication; a future where the entire globe and every person benefits from this epochal advance of massive utility.

Utility, too, must be brought to our foreign policy and diplomatic endeavors. I intend to remind the people of our troubled planet that we have not forgotten our roots, our heritage, the great ideas of democratic governance conceived here, developed here, perfected here, still living here. We are a government of the people, by the people, for the people. This is our heritage, our creed, and our undying example. No foe whoever he is, wherever he may be should forget this and no friend must ever call upon us in need, only to discover that this is nothing more than empty words. And so I have requested outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to take up a new role in her historic career; to transform American diplomacy so that America’s mission, America’s message, and America’s heart are known to every person everywhere. This lady who has forged new pathways for women has now agreed to assist me forge new pathways for world peace, for only in peace is security.

One more lady and her crusade must be cited, my rock and loving friend Michelle, always First Lady of my heart. Michelle has been a tireless supporter of American arts, literature, poetry, painting, sculpture, architecture, and historic preservation. Too often our national support for these essential cultural features has been paltry, derisory, an afterthought. But no longer.

A Great Republic requires thoughtful, sustained, and broad-based support for the arts, all the arts. We have waited too long to provide such support. If not now, when? If not us, who? Every great nation glories in its arts and its masters. It is time for our Great Republic to do so.

It will be said that such a national agenda, with so many demanding, intractable problems, is too ambitious for a “lame duck” President. That second terms, however massively bestowed by our citizens, are often futile and bereft of meaningful successes and worthy endeavors. Perhaps. But we, improving everywhere, must not let such improving end at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue where more than anywhere else vibrant change and unceasing betterment must be the order of the day, every day.

Thus, I give you one last reform: the end of Presidential libraries as we have known them. Presently such libraries, monuments to men more than the great and high office itself, commence with President Herbert Hoover and end with President George Bush. It is now time to rethink this matter through the creation of a soaring institution featuring the Presidency, the Congress, and the Supreme Court of these United States, our three co-equal branches of government, too little known by our people, young and old.

Such an institution, set in the midst of our great Capital, made awe-inspiring and thrilling by our unparalleled interactive technology would put the focus where it truly belongs… on the people and what we have, with God’s help, wrought through days of duress and triumph. sacrifice and unified purpose.

Now we must begin for there is much to do. Just steps from this place of our assembling, Abraham Lincoln said, “Fellow citizens, we cannot escape history… No personal significance or insignificance can spare one or another of us.” Thus, I invite you to be an active participant in the greatest odyssey of your life, a voyage each generation must take all over again with determination, commitment and joy… the epic task of reinventing our Great Republic and the nation and people on whom God shed his grace and infinite love. ‘And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters’. (Genesis I:2) Thoughts on Foxy Lady II and the most chilling words in the language, ‘presumed lost.’

Author’s program note. To consider the great seas and oceans of our habitat is to consider the very origin of our species and how, upon decease, the residue of each of us returns to the water from whence we came.

The truth is not ashes to ashes, not dust to dust, but drop to drop, oozing towards the watery place where life ends and life begins all over again; an unbreakable cycle of life, death, renewal, our place by no means secure and irrevocable.

Those who move upon these waters know this cycle, respect it, seek to understand and profit from it. But none of them seeks to control it, for that is the prerogative of God Himself alone whose countenance hovers over the waters, dictating fair passage or foul, for God moves in mysterious ways, as the fisher folk of Gloucester, Massachusetts know; theirs the home of the oldest fleet, port and harbor of the new land, coming long years before the Great Republic itself.

This story is their story and despite its deep sadness I am whilst grieving glad to write it… for this story is well worth the telling.

To begin….

As soon as I became aware of this story insistent words filled my brain. They were the sharp words of Gordon Lightfoot’s 1976 classic “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.” Once you hear it, the stark simplicity of its words and music arrest your full attention, as they will rise unbidden at every watery event of melancholy and loss. Lightfoot understood that the stories of greatest impact, the most powerful words, the ones that change your life and reside in your brain forever, are simple, short, thrust from his brain to yours where they reside, waiting for you to trip on the booby trap that sets them off in your mind all over again; each time to be reminded of the awe and terrible power of the unyielding water, the water that creates us, sustains us, and controls us, never to be released.

Lightfoot, poet, has this ability… and that is why listening to “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” is so haunting, painful, music you should listen to only when there is a sympathetic hand nearby touching yours, reminding you there is light and life and even the comforts of love poised for you. Then listen as Lightfoot weaves his tale of a great ship of 29 men, weighed down with too much iron ore and cargo, “fully loaded”; the ship, the men that have no chance at all, none whatsoever, when pitted against the capricious mastery “Of the big lake they called ‘Gitche Gumee’.

The ship, “the pride of the American side”, went down, all hands lost, never to be given up by dread Superior or seen again. They were now and forever entombed in the waters of eternity. And so the tune ends on a note that is at once bleak, somber, hopeless.

Go now to any search engine and see for yourself. But here’s the rub… the terrible, affecting, afflicting, distressing, dismal, depressing tale that Lightfoot tells is, with all its solemnity and woe, happier, I think, than what happened to the Foxy Lady II and her two-man crew.

For the grieving survivors of Edmund Fitzgerald’s dead could take what comfort they could from the fact their loved ones were immortalized by Lightfoot who thus gave them something of closure and peace. For those who knew the little Foxy Lady II and her crew it is very different. Their terrible sadness will abide, raw, chilling, tugging at hearts already broken and distressed. This is the greatest burden of all, for there is no comfort here.

The facts.

Here’s what we know about the Foxy Lady II, its 25 year-old captain Wally “Chubby” Gray Jr. and his 50-year old mate, Wayne Young.

Foxy Lady II was a 45-foot scalloper homeported in Gloucester although Gray and Young were from Deer Isle, Maine.

For all that he was a young man, Gray had a lifetime of fishing experience. His father was a fisherman; he had started his son in the family business at age 3, his mother reported. He knew boats, fish, and the movements of dark sky and darker waters. He respected them and so he was chary, careful, prepared, professional.

He had a young child, just 3, affectionately called “Mini me”. The backyard, eyes-squinting pictures of father and son are jolting, one now dead, the other bereft of a father. “Chubby” playing with his son, hair a riot of disorder, his young son, blond and happy to be with the father he will not recall at all in the long, lonely years to come. This is but one of the sad stories here….

The newspapers report that “Chubby” had a “girlfriend.” However, in all the coverage there is no mention of a wife or the baby’s mother. Such facts, such omissions, suggest turmoil and domestic confusion… and of the pain we humans cause so casually to each other. “Chubby” Gray was young, looked younger but life had already marked him. Maybe that’s why he looks so thoughtful in the few photos which now constitute a fragile heirloom to his son, his legacy. We long to hear his thoughts… but he is powerless to tell us, now or ever.

And what of the mate, 50-year-old Wayne Young? His photograph reveals much, far too much. It shows a man who knew too much of the provocations, hindrances and obstacles which constitute “life” for so many.

Young’s skin looks tough and weathered, his leathery face the face of too many mornings after the nights before. But then we learn he was married, a devoted family man. Now we suppose his leathered complexion to be the tax he paid with his aging body to keep his wife Shirley and 3 children comfortable. And so we learn he is anything but the kind of man down- and-out, no place to go and no one to go with; not just a casual laborer, not a cent to his name, well-known to locals and ignored by the “summer people” and fast-in, fast-out visitors like me who smell Young’s sweat and stale perspiration and never ask (or want to know) his story, just get away from him as soon as possible.

Looks are deceiving, but the great waters take all, good and bad, sinner and saint, loving family men and artful philanderers. Still, it is telling that this man, gnarled by life’s unrelenting realities was taking orders from young “Chubby”, a man half his age. One can only hope they were friends and left this Earth together.

An ordinary boat, an ordinary crew, an ordinary day… then…

What does a day when men die look like? It looks like every other day. And so it was Saturday, December 14 when Foxy Lady II left port for a one-day trip to Stellwagen Banks, famous for its whales. An early evening return was expected… but there was no return at all. Because both men were experienced mariners, because the weather was “not too bad” but worsening. Because no one saw a single distress signal and because Chubby kept in touch with his girlfriend by cell phone until noon Saturday, no one was unduly worried… just yet. Just yet. But as the hours went by a sense developed that all was not well; that something was wrong…. Monday morning. Chubby’s always unnamed girlfriend at last notified the Coast Guard. Had she waited too long? She will spend the rest of her life wondering… but never knowing.

And so the Coast Guard, still not hearing anything, launched its search of more than 2,800 square miles of Massachusetts Bay, finding nothing.

But then there were finds, discoveries which only intensified speculation without solving anything. The boat’s survival capsule washed ashore in a marshy area of the Saugus River, north of Boston. No signs of life. Then fishing gear which may or may not have been theirs washed ashore near Nantasket Beach in Hull.

While the Coast Guard worked to turn clues into facts, the fisher communities of Gloucester and Deer Isle did what their stalwart, God-fearing ancestors did. They bowed their heads and confronted the stern realities of their chosen way of life. And so as hope waned the communities pulled together to help each other through the growing prospect of death… and not just death…but death without the finality of bodies. “Habeas corpus,” the great waters said. And the great waters, adamant, tenacious, were determined to keep them. Through it all the Spirit of God still moved upon the face of the waters, inscrutable, baffling, our past and our future.

Historians of the Gloucester area estimate than in the last 350 years since its foundation in 1623 over 10,000 fishermen and mariners have gone down to the sea in ships… and never returned. The names of just 5000 are either painted on a huge mural on the main staircase at City Hall or listed on a new memorial cenotaph on Stacy Boulevard. The list never stops growing…

“They might have split up or they might have capsized; May have broke deep and took water. And all that remains is the faces and the names Of the wives and the sons and the daughters.”

How To Pick a Legitimate Home Business Opportunity

You’ve seen the emails, the offers, the promises and the claims. Everyone it seems has a way to help you make money online.

But how do you know who you can trust? How do you know what system works? How do you protect yourself?

The fact is that you CAN earn money online from legitimate sources, here’s what to look for when picking an online business opportunity.

Products or Services with actual value

Many companies including large companies like Amazon and ClickBank offer what is known as an Affiliate marketing program, or sometimes called a Reseller program. This allows you to promote a company’s products or services and earn a commission when a sale is made through your website link. The key in knowing what is legitimate is to be sure you are actually promoting a real product, or a digital product, or an actually service. Beware of selling anything that seems without substance, and has no real market value. An example of something suspect would be getting paid to recruit people into a program who have not paid any money to do so. All business online and off works when there is an exchange of money for a product or service. Pyramid schemes exist online and off and are an example of focus on recruitment into a program rather then the sale of an actual product. In the case of a pyramid scheme, and example is someone paying to join a program but receives no product or service of REAL value in return. In short, make sure that you are actually selling something of value.

Customer Service and Support

Legitimate companies that sell actual products and services will support or service what they sell. In other words, good companies will have a Customer Support Department, or a Service Department or Technical Support division to assist customers who have either bought a product or intend to do so. Reputable companies offer this support in any number of ways, online chat, support forums, Twitter, Facebook, telephone support, or online support.

Time in business

Legitimate business opportunities most trustworthy are often those that have stood the test of time. On the web it is very easy to set up a company, sell questionable products and services, then disappear into the night when the business practices come into question. When picking an online business opportunity select a company that has been around for at least a few years. Companies that continue to exist are usually those that demonstrate an interest in keeping their customers happy, are accountable, and adhere to policy and legislation that permits them to provide a product or service.

Reputation

When picking a reputable business opportunity people will often look to review sites for feedback from others. This can offer you some interesting details about what people think about a company and how the company responds to complaints. In reading the reviews though keep an open mind knowing that no company exists without complaints against it. Good companies that you would want to associate with, are those that try to address customer complaints or resolve issues brought to their attention. People with an axe to grind will sometime post negative reviews and hide in the anonymity of that post. So be smart when reading review sites, and look for dates, patterns or themes and try to separate the intelligent comments from the less helpful and questionable ones.

Look before you leap

When you decide on which business opportunity you wish to join, be sure to take your time and read over what you are agreeing to before you sign on the dotted line or hit the submit button. Determine what your up front cost is, your monthly cost (if any), your ongoing cost? What happens if you want to cancel, is there a guarantee, or is there any long term obligation or a penalty for cancelling? Find out how your sales will be tracked, how often will you paid, for which services and how will you be paid.

In summary, here are 5 questions to ask yourself for any company you are considering for a home business opportunity.

1. How long has the company been in business? What is their reputation?

2. What is the product or service you will be selling? What is the value in the market place? There should ALWAYS be a product or service being sold.

3. What is the initial cost to get started in the business? What do you get for that amount of money? What are the ongoing costs?

4. What kind of support or service will you receive as an Affiliate Marketer or Reseller for the company to help you make sales? What kind of support of service will the people you refer receive when they make a purchase?

5. How much money are you paid by this company when you make a sale, how often, and how will your sales be tracked?

These questions and information contained within are a guideline to help you make a smart decision about an online business opportunity that is right for you.

One final bit of advise. Once you have found a company to represent be sure to be realistic about your earnings and accept some responsibility for your own success. At the end of the day, your success comes down to you, and your efforts. It won’t matter what business opportunity you select if you don’t take the time to learn about the program, learn how to market online, and make an honest consistent effort to build your own success.

Review: Jan 11, 2013 LIVE Home Business Bootcamp with George Kosch. Presented by Worldprofit Inc.

Marketing expert George Kosch welcomed both new and long time Members to Worldprofit’s interactive Live Home Business Bootcamp Training session.

Christmas from another point of view. The Grinch has his day… astonishing revelations from his first-ever interview exclusive to me exclusively here.

Author’s program note. You just never know what impact the printed word is going to have, and this tale of The Grinch proves the point. Thanksgiving Day, The Grinch (he insists upon the use of the capital “T” ) was sitting at home having polished off last year’s holiday left-overs as his wont, when his eye happened to see a corner of an article used to wrap the garbage. It was my report on “Squawk”, the valiant leader of the “Young Turks” fighting for the freedom of turkeys everywhere.

The paper was greasy, ripped, noisome from the remainder of The Grinch’s favorite morsels which stank to high heaven…. in fact, he could only finish the article by searching online for it at jeffreylantarticles.com. He liked what he read… and at that moment (as he later told me) he determined to break his lifetime of media silence. He wanted his story to be told, and he wanted me to tell it.

Within the hour, his invitation was en route to me, never mind that it was the middle of the night, 3:22 a.m. Eastern. The Grinch knew his man. You can sleep anytime; but such an interview comes but once in a lifetime.

The letter to me from The Grinch.

There was a sharp knock at the door, the kind of knock that summons you to Destiny. I couldn’t immediately tell if it were real or a dream but its insistence made the point. There was a note under the door. It said, “Open the door!”, nothing more. So more irritated than apprehensive, I did. There was a Christmas bouquet on the welcome mat, wilted, one half- eaten candy-cane alone amongst the dying foliage. And there was a message, too, on stationery engraved with this motto, “After me, you are the most important person on Earth.”

The message couldn’t have been clearer: “You have 10.5 minutes to get dressed and leave for your Exclusive Interview With The Grinch. Be sure to brush your teeth. Don’t keep your car and driver waiting!”

I’m proud to tell you, nearly 66 that I am, that I was ready with a minute to spare, though there was, I confess, stubble on my noble chin.

A black limousine was waiting, sleek, important looking… and clearly in need of a good wash. The night was chill, the breeze off the snow piecing and unremitting. The door to my car was open, and I could hear rock music from within. It was Eric Clapton singing “After Midnight” where “we’re gonna let it all hang out”, where “we’re gonna find out what it’s all about.” It was astonishingly apt music….

I slid into the back seat, where my full attention was immediately arrested by a pair of creme colored eyes looking directly into mine. At the same moment he merely brushed my hand by way of greeting. It was fur, not flesh, and it was a shade of green I had never seen before. Then right beside a dog, his dog Max, a half-breed rumored to be The Grinch’s only friend, faithful to his Master, his aspect anything but welcoming. Throughout our interview The Grinch idly stroked his hide. I liked him the better for it.

“Well, get in, Mack, it’s cold out there,” a directive swiftly followed by a short, sharp nudge to my rib cage. My encounter with The Grinch was well and truly underway.

“Ask me anything….”, and he grinned broadly, the kind of grin of ribald remarks, very dry martinis perfectly made, and bottoms pinched just so. Thus I learned that The Grinch liked the good life. “Cookie, Mack?” He offered a box of demolished Christmas cookies with the air of a prince. There were dog hairs in the mix. I declined the dainty. “Your loss, Mack. Now what do you want to know?”, and he told his driver to “get the lead out.”

The Grinch’s personal history.

“Tell me about yourself, Mr. Grinch,” I asked. “Nothing I’d rather do, Mack. For as you know, I am a most interesting fellow”. Max’s tail wagged as if in confirmation. And so in a voice that mixed insinuation, wisecracks, and sweet self satisfaction, he laid out the broad outlines of his unlikely life, the life that made him one of the handful of the immediately recognized. He laid back, lit a stoggie (whether I liked it or not) and readied himself for his favorite story… his, at which there came into his eyes a look of reverie, fond remembrance, and Olde Lang Syne. He smiled the smile of those who love themselves to distraction, not wisely but too well.

Yes, there he was, the creature of the hour, the creature the world loved to revile, sitting back, oozing self satisfaction, toodling through the darkness of the night, going nowhere in particular, loving the high life. It was all so wicked cool… and then he remembered this all had a purpose. “Now, Mack, what is it you wanted to know?”

The facts.

“What started it off, sir?”

And darned if The Grinch didn’t shake his tambourine and so begin his tale.

“Mack, it all happened a very long time ago, but I remember it as if it were yesterday. It was near Christmas. I was a shy kid and had only a small role in the school pageant. I played one of the extra shepherds who get put in the back because they have to be put somewhere. It was not my finest hour.”

“It so happened that from the time I was a nipper I had a beard, full, rich, patriarchal. The day of the pageant, my mother decided her shepherd needed a freshly shaved look. But she was terrible, absolutely awful at what she was doing and cut me to ribbons. I was in despair knowing what the other kids would say.”

“Mom, was horrified by what she had done. She took some ointment from the cabinet and applied it liberally. Then she kissed me and sent me on my way.”

At this point he closed his eyes, the better to recall his affecting story.

“I thought the matter was closed, but as I got closer to school, the kids started pointing at me, using some pretty strong words I can tell you. To a certain extent I was used to them; after all I was a kid with a beard. But these remarks were nothing compared to what they were calling me this day. It was the worst ever and every single one of them was pointing at my face.”

“As soon as I could I went to the boys’ room to see what I could see. And what I saw horrified me. My whole face was green, I mean every single inch. It had to be that ointment.” “I wanted to run away.”

The hot words came thick and fast, every aspect of the incident at his fingertips. He decided to run home and hide. But he was grabbed by a teacher who thought he was trying to escape from the pageant, something boys did. He was deposited on stage… and then it happened.

The Grinch explodes.

“I couldn’t stay on that stage. I couldn’t face the teachers and all the kids who started to snigger and point the minute they saw me. I just had to get out of there.”

He turned. He tripped. He fell on a pile of boxes wrapped like Christmas presents under the tree. He crushed the boxes. The tree fell. The crowd roared. The kids jumped all over the place pointing at me and shouting. There was the pop, pop, pop as incriminating photos were snapped in their hundreds.

And then The Grinch heard himself shout in a voice not his own…

“I hate Christmas. I hate everything about it,” sing song like a chant. “I hate Christmas. I hate everything about it. I hate Christmas. I hate everything about it.” The crowd went bananas.

Dr. Seuss heard it all, too, because he was in the audience that fateful day. And he knew a great story when he heard one. He went home and started work on the book which after many drafts and edits became in 1957, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”.

“Mack, I get a nice fat royalty check every Christmas, which enables me to live in the manner to which I’ve become accustomed.”

The car was just pulling up to my house. The dawn was just about to break. I had just one more question to ask, but when we arrived, the door opened as if by magic. The Grinch poked my rib cage again, Max glowered at me.

“It’s been real, Mack. Write me a good story.” He told the driver to “put pedal to the metal”. And he turned his head in my direction and seemed to say something. But Max was barking, while the car shot away and I couldn’t be sure. I thought I heard him say something like “Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night”. But I can’t be sure… it’s so unGrinch-like.

And then I heard one more line from Clapton in The Grinch’s unmistable voice:

“We’re gonna cause talk and suspicion”…… and he was laughing, Mack, he was laughing….
